  •   LBHS ATHLETES OF THE OCTOBER MONTH & SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD

    December 7, 2022

On behalf of the Lemon Bay High School Athletic Department, we would like to congratulate our November 2022 Athletes of the Month and Sportsmanship Award winners.

    ATHLETES OF THE MONTH:

    GIRLS GOLF: Sophia Stiwich, Freshman

Sophia led the Manta Ray Girls Golf Team to an impressive 10-1 record during our storm shortened season.

Due to Hurricane Ian damage in our Charlotte County area, (which forced the closure of schools and golf courses), we were unable to complete our regular season schedule, and we were unable to compete at the Donald Ross Memorial Invitational Tournament. Our team went 3 weeks without practice or play. We were finally able to return to play on October 19th, to successfully defend our 18 Hole Charlotte County Girls Golf Title at Deep Creek GC. Sophia Stiwich (77), took Medalist honors, and became the Charlotte County Girls Individual Golf Champion for 2022.Sophia missed the 2A District 12 Tournament due to illness, but her teammates pulled through for a third place team finish, (without her present), to qualify our TEAM for the 2A Region 3 Tournament the following week. Sophia returned in time for Regionals, and shot a (75) at the 2A Region 3 Championships at Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club. This was the 2nd place Individual score in the tournament. Her score helped our LBHS TEAM win the 2A Region 3 Runner-up Trophy and qualify for the FL State Golf Finals at Mission Inn Resort. The Lemon Bay High School Girls Golf team FINISHED in 13th place as a team at the Class 2A FL State Girls Golf Championships. Lemon Bay Freshman Sophia Stiwich led the Manta Ray Girls in the 2A State Finals by finishing in 6th place overall. Shooting a (71) on Day 1, and a (77) on Day 2. Sophia Stiwich finished the 2022-23 Golf season ranked 9th in the State for ALL 2A Girl Golfers on the iWanamaker Golf app., and a 9 hole average of 38.

     BOYS SWIMMING: Becket Koss, Senior

Becket was the State runner up in one of his two events (50 Freestyle) at the State Championship meet. He also broke the school record once again in this event, as well as in his second event (100 fly), where he also medaled by placing 6th . This was done in a season that was unlike any other season. Becket rose to the occasion and upheld the Lemon Bay standard of excellence.

    SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD:

    Girls Weightlifting: Addison Adcock, Senior

Addie is the embodiment of a good teammate and competitor. Every new girl into the weightroom is immediately taken under Addie's wing for a practice or two to learn the ropes. She is exceedingly positive to everyone about everything. She is polite and respectful to coaches, judges, and competitors. Her new teammates feel welcome and that they have someone in the team leadership position that they can talk to. In all 3 home meets this month Addie went out of her way to assist the opposition. She even went as far as helping the other team learn the Olympic Snatch, a new lift. At the Port Charlotte meet Addison took time to encourage new lifters both from Lemon Bay and Port Charlotte. She has built strong relationships with not only her teammates but the girls from Imagine, our chief district rival and another team faced in November. At the Imagine meet she even introduced our new lifters to the opposition so they could root for each other as they competed.

Honorable Mention for the month of November:

    GIRLS SWIMMING: Monica Heeg (Fr)

    GIRLS SOCCER: Izzy Ragazzone (Jr)

GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING: Natalee Brown (Sr), Bryn Atherholt (Sr), Alexandretta Harris (Jr) and Addison Adcock (Sr)

    WRESTLING: Koen Hoffman (Sr)

Honorable Mention for the November Sportsmanship Award:

    GIRLS GOLF: Rachel Gillis (Fr)

    GIRLS SOCCER: Omy Ordaz-Ortiz (Jr)
