Bert CassSocial Studies
Mr. Cass was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated
from Loyola University of New Orleans with a Bachelors of Arts degree in
Communication Studies and minor in Philosophy. His post-graduate work was associated with the University of Maine and conducted at the SALT Center for Documentary Field Study in Portland, Maine,
where he photographed and published his essay
His teaching career began 15 years ago at Port Charlotte High School where he taught World History, AP Human Geography, Civics, and Intro to Psychology and Sociology. Over the last 9 years, Mr. Cass taught Honors World History, Psychology, and Sociology at Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School in Punta Gorda as well as Critical Thinking and Writing for College Success.
He is married to Lemon Bay High School English Teacher, Bonnie Powell, enjoys golf, tennis, cooking, photography and loves traveling the world. for SALT magazine. After his work with SALT, Mr. Cass worked as a photojournalist for 13 years with the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group at The York County Coast Star in Kennebunk Maine, the Gadsen Times in Gadsen, Alabama and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in Sarasota, Florida.
