Master Sergeant Abbott enlisted on 19 September 1989 and underwent recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. PFC Abbott completed Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC and was then transferred to Courthouse Bay Camp Lejeune, NC for training as a Basic Engineer Equipment Mechanic.
In May 1990, Lance Corporal Abbott was ordered to MCAS Cherry Point, NC where he served with 3rd Light Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion and Combat Service Support Detachment-21. In December 1990 he deployed with 8th Engineer Support Battalion to Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, returning to CSSD-21 upon completion of deployment. Duties included MIMMS and Layettes Clerk and Organic Maintenance Chief.
Corporal Abbott was transferred to Okinawa, Japan for service with General Support Maintenance Company in March 1993. In April 1994 he was then ordered to Marine Air Control Squadron-7, MCAS Yuma, AZ where he served as Platoon Sergeant, Utilities Floor Chief, and Squadron Color Sergeant.
In January 1997, Sergeant Abbott received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. Upon completion of DI School, Sergeant Abbott was assigned to Company L, 3d Recruit Training Battalion as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Field Instructor.
In April 2000, Staff Sergeant Abbott was assigned to CSSD-14 for duty as the Utilities and Engineer Maintenance Chief. In April 2000 he was reassigned to Inspector & Instructor Staff, Peoria, Illinois where he served as Engineer Operations Chief, Maintenance Management Chief and Color Sergeant.
Staff Sergeant Abbott then reported to Training and Education Center Company, MCB Quantico, VA in November 2002, for duty as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. He also served as a Sergeant Instructor and Platoon Sergeant at Officer Candidate School during the summer augments of 2003 through 2005.
In January 2006 Gunnery Sergeant Abbott was ordered to Combat Logistics Battalion-One where he served as Maintenance Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant. He was assigned duty as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Port of Entry Transitional Training Team 4254 responsible for the reopening of an International Port of Entry in Husaybah, Iraq from July 2007 through March 2008.
Master Sergeant Abbott was assigned to Engineer Equipment Instruction Company, Marine Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, MO in July 2008. He served as the Maintenance Administration Instructor for the Basic Engineer Equipment Officer, Chief, and Journeyman Mechanic courses. He also served as a Subject Matter Expert in the development of an online training package for the Engineer Equipment Chief community.
Master Sergeant Abbotts personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star lieu of 3rd award and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of 3d award.
Master Sergeant Abbott is married to Jennifer Corrine Abbott. They have four children together; Britin, Randy, Ty and Savannah.
