My intent as a teacher is to honor and respect all my students, parents and coworkers independent of their race and gender or their special needs and social levels. I believe in an all-inclusive program where mutual respect is taught and where the individuals feelings and needs are taken into consideration. I also believe in getting families involved in the learning process by encouraging and welcoming them to participate in their child's education. My goal is that everyone who is involved in the learning process feels like they belong creating a lifelong desire to learn. My philosophy in teaching is to introduce the learning skills that build the foundation that all my students will carry with them throughout their lifetime.
My mission is to create an environment of inclusion and respect for all students where they can create positive memories as they explore and learn about the world around them. I value an open classroom environment where students can observe and interact connecting new ideas to previous understandings. Empowering all students to embrace learning, they will achieve their best in physical, emotional developmental, social and personal well-being. I am committed to providing a safe learning environment with a high-quality service for all students based on developmentally appropriate hands-on experimental learning. Providing a safe-haven where everyone is valued, I will deliver the perfect teaching atmosphere for learning.
I believe that the purpose of education is to bring a desire to learn. Students learn better when they feel safe to express themselves and have the curiosity to learn.
My teaching method is eclectic because I believe that each student has an individual way of learning. I have an open classroom where students can learn from each other and use different approaches for visual learners, audio learners and kinesthetic learners. Students should always be treated with dignity and have an opportunity to learn critical thinking and decision-making skills while interacting with peers. My preference of grading is a portfolio method where I can log in their achievements, interests and evaluate how the student is learning/progressing throughout the year. The portfolio method helps me as a teacher to track how each individual student is learning. It enables me to make the necessary changes for each student to reach their maximal potential. In addition, each student can see their progress which tends to motivate them to perform at the same time it encourages them to discover their interests and develop their aptitudes.
My experiences gained as a Preschool owner/teacher (at Adriana's Preschool and Child Care LLC in Portland, OR), Media-paraprofessional (at Lemon Bay High School in Englewood, FL) in conjunction with my formal education has developed my understanding of the importance of diversity in schools. I am also inspired by Maria Montessori (1870-1952), Lev Vygotsky (1896-1934) and Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) which continues even today in helping me grow as a teacher. I have been in various forms of education over the past 16 years which has played a vital role in developing my teaching philosophy. I now incorporate these approaches to my philosophy to teach effectively. I am very proud of being a Spanish teacher (World Language) at Lemon Bay High School. I speak fluently Portuguese, Spanish and English.
I am currently pursuing my master's degree in Education. My professional goal is to help my students to become independent and grow into being a responsible adult while sharing a love for learning.
